Won: French International School, HKD $455m New Campus, Hong Kong

We're pleased to announce that Marshall Day Acoustics is part of the winning design team, led by Henning Larsen Architects and local firm AGC Design, selected for the HKD $455M new Tseung Kwan O campus at the French International School in Hong Kong (HK).

The project will significantly expand and improve the school’s educational amenity, which has been carefully designed to create a sustainable, innovative and flexible learning environment that reflects the most contemporary pedagogical standards in education.

The project comprises:

18,000 m2  total floor area spread over 5 levels 3 main playgrounds

A state-of-the-art sports facilities, including a large swimming pool and gymnasium

A 300-seat auditorium

A canteen, which will accommodate 1,000 students

Our Scope

Marshall Day has been engaged as both acoustic and theatre consultant for this project. We are responsible not only for the sound insulation, building services noise control, room acoustics and vibration, but also for the design of the school’s theatre which will be hired out to the community and able to operate independently.

The proposed design includes a central common room surrounded by classrooms and activity rooms. Each floor is configured into these "villas", where the smaller classrooms and activity spaces surround and open out beautifully onto large light-filled open common areas on each floor, which act as an inspiring amphitheatre type space that invites collaborative learning within the students.

Marshall Day Acoustics has recently led the acoustic design for several significant education projects, for example, Frank Gehry’s award winning Dr Chau Chak Wing for UTS Sydney and Geelong Grammar School’s state-of-the-art School of Performing Arts and Creative Design. We are also currently involved with research led by the University of Melbourne into innovative learning environments.

Timelines

Construction is expected to complete by September 2018.
